The long needle pines were used by tribes in the southeast, including the Croatoan on the Outer Banks, to make intricate baskets.
Join our museum staff member, Amber Roth, as she teaches you how create these elegant baskets. Classes are $20 and will last approximately 2 hours. Participants will be making a circular disk out of locally gathered long needle pine. They will also be given the option to create a small lip on their disk to practice changing the shape of their piece, giving them the skills to create more elaborate baskets on their own at home. Pine needles, thread, and needles will be provided for the class time.
Spaces can be reserved by clicking the link below or by calling the museum.
