15 January 2024; Naming Turtles

The past few weeks, our Facebook Page has been holding a contest. We have three lovely stone turtles inside the entrance to our Nature Trail and they needed names. The numbers are in and we’re happy to present the names that were submitted and then voted for by the public:

1st place, for the largest turtle
Mikinàk (Algonquin word for turtle)

2nd place, for the medium turtle
Che koo WA (Tuscarora word for turtle)

3rd Place, for the smallest
Wah’f nah kwa kenh (Tuscarora for “the world”)

Honorable mentions –
Pebbles (Ahsenintehsa in algonquin/Myaamia)

Drifter

We’d like to thank everyone who submitted names and those that voted for their favorites. We hope that you’ll take a moment to visit our newly named stone turtle friends next time you’re in the area!
