Our staff had the pleasure of meeting the Savidge Family earlier in the year and we were pleased to see them again this week. But we weren’t expecting them to come with such a cool find!
They found this on Hatteras Island at Cape Point and were hoping that with the odd shape and what appeared to be intentional grooves that it would be something special.
And it is! This is a stone fishing/net sinker! With no natural stone on the island, this is something that would have originated from the mainland.
They also generously donated the piece and we will be adding it to our exhibit on the local indigenous people.
