Many of you know Amber from the front admissions, but did you know she will be out in the wild on Saturday from 11am – 2pm at the RWS Community Building in Rodanthe for a Plant Swap event! She will be hosting a table to talk to people about our tiniest neighbors: snakes, spiders, and bugs! They’re such an important aspect of our environment that often get looked over or thought of as scary. Meet up with Amber and she’ll happily answer questions and share some unique facts!
Did natives use honey? Are mosquitoes good for anything besides dragonfly food? Do wasps have redeeming qualities? Stop by and learn the answers!
She may even have a scaled friend for you to meet!

We are very excited for our Earth Day Event and Plant Swap. This is an event to benefit our scholarship fund.
We will have booths set up from lots of wonderful community members and organizations. We will have local beekeepers, NPS, NC Cooperative Extension and CHEC will be there with their electric vehicle. Hatteras Library will have information on their seed library, Frisco Native American Museum will be there and the OBX Lighthouse Society will be talking about erosion.
There will be a planting activity for kids to take home and they can make some seed balls to plant in the garden too.
Plus there will be fun raffles and food available to purchase.
PLUS we will be bringing back the PLANT SWAP! Love or want to try plants but have a limited budget? Want to try something new but unsure if it will live on Hatteras Island? Overrun with plant babies? Bring extra plants (trees, bushes, flowers, vegetables) for indoor or out to share and “swap” with others. Have extra bulbs, seed packets or live plants from a multi-pack? Those are welcome too
