The museum had an unexpected special guest that we’re in the process of working with to have summer classes and maybe even become a demonstrator during our summer festivals!

Flintknapping is the process of turning pieces of stone into sharp tools. Though most people assume this means arrowheads made from flint, the end result includes spear points, knife blades, and scraping tools! You can even flintknapp glass. Doing this can actually help some knappers get proficient at obsidian without practicing on the stone itself.

Though he was exceptionally modest when he spoke about his work, the company he had with him was insistent he share his work with us and OH BOY are we happy he did! Jason has been doing this for several years and really has some impressive specimens. He was kind enough to share these photos with us so we can show off his work to you.

Keep up with our website to see if you can meet Jason and learn a bit about flintknapping next time you’re down!
