Abenaki Elder Francine Jones will be sharing some traditional teaching stories and music. Elder Francine is a storyteller, musician, and advocate for maintaining and protecting their language and culture. She is working with Vermont state to create a curriculum covering the history of the Abenaki in Vermont. This will be available for students from public to home schools. She is member of the Vermont Abenaki Artists Association and on the Board for the Abenaki Arts & Education Center.

They are an Algonquian-speaking Indigenous people, part of the Wabanaki Confederacy, traditionally inhabiting the Northeastern Woodlands of the United States and Canada with significant populations in Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and Quebec. Abenaki means “people of the dawn”.

We will be holding this event at 11AM and again at 2PM on both July 8th and 9th so double check when filling out your RSVP!
