Wow wow wow WOW!

It has been a little bit of time since we’ve started this project and we’ve been excited to see the progress slowly continuing day by day. The last week of June, Lior of Backyard Butterflies came with over 100 young plants. It was the hottest week of the summer thus far but there was nothing to be done as we planned this a year in advance.

Thankfully, some youthful volunteers that are newly local showed up to help us get these plant babies into the ground. They also helped us set up an irrigation line for easy watering for the majority of the front garden so the plants can be supported to the best of our abilities.

Transplanting is hard on the plant, even in the best of conditions, so we worked tirelessly to make sure they were given adequate water during shaded times. Many of the plants in the front garden struggled with the direct sun and intense heat, but some are already showing signs of recovery!

The side gardens have been living their best life and thriving, which is incredible!

Thanks to the donations, we were able to purchase the garden stakes to act as a barrier to help protect the plants by alerting visitors to their presence. It is quite normal for a new pollinator garden to seem weak the first year, so unfortunately we can’t show off a bunch of blooms….yet.

Though the early photos aren’t visually exciting, we hope you’re able to share in our excitement over new growth! This is lining up to be yet another massive shift in the museum and we’re overjoyed to have you all along with us for it. We still have a long way to go on funding our signage and supporting our garden, so please continue to share our fundraiser to help raise awareness to what we’re on our way to accomplishing. We couldn’t have done this without YOU and we are grateful for the continued support. Come back for updates on the fundraiser page, here on our official website, or our Facebook page/group!
