Tree-hole Predatory Mosquito (Toxorhynchites rutilus)

The male mosquito of the Tree-hole Predatory Mosquitoes, aka Elephant mosquitoes, are large and striking with the blue scales on the thorax. The females of this species are unable to bite for a blood meal and are therefore just important pollinators. This one is drinking from a species of lady’s tresses orchid.
