Prochoerodes lineola
Large Maple Spanworm Moth (Prochoerodes lineola)

On a background of yaupon leaves, there is a large brown moth that mimics a fallen leaf that has long turned brown. The center body is difficult to discern as when the wings are fully open, it is a smooth contour. The same brown as a dead leaf is only broken by small, jagged black markings that smoothly go from wing tip to wing tip and accent the hind wing. When flying, these wasps also can be mistaken for a leaf fluttering in the wind.
