Foraging Edible & Medicinal Plants

Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Frisco Native American Museum by…..
joining long-time museum supporter Jack Mcclung of the Potomac to discuss the importance of wild plants!
Foraging was, and still is, and important aspect of indigenous culture and survival. Much more than looking for vegetables, wild plants that many overlook as “weeds” can provide important nutrients as well as life-saving medicine when utilized properly. Jack will be bringing some examples of wild foraged plants common to Virginia and North Carolina, as well as gathering some things from our trail to share with all of you and answer some important questions!
Is there a right way to harvest plants?
How are they processed for medicine?
What are they used for?
Before dehydrators, how did indigenous people dry their herbs?
And much MORE!
He’ll be sharing ways to recognize different plants and reliable resources to continue learning. Jack will also be touching on the dangers of improper identification, preparation, and usage.
Jack is also generously willing to stay after the allotted time for enthusiastic participants that are eager to learn more or ask questions. We hope to see you there!
Event is FREE with museum admission
