“Sticking” To Tradition

November 9 @ 12:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Join us to make talking sticks for the museum! The process is straightforward and you don’t need special skills to participate. Bring a snack, sit in our beautiful Natural History Center, and help the museum while enjoying the company!

What are talking sticks?

Talking sticks are decorated sticks that are used when we circle up for council meetings, storytelling, or other events where folks will speak in turns. Whoever is holding the stick gets the floor to speak, uninterrupted, with other people engaging active listening. Once done speaking the stick can be passed to another who wishes to speak. The stick itself confers respect on the speaker and everyone’s words are held with value, regardless of age, by the listeners.
