DESCRIPTION:**PLEASE NOTE IMPORTANT DATE CHANGE**\nDue to scheduling errors\, the date of the event has been shifted to September 16th and NOT SEPTEMBER 23RD \nCelebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Frisco Native American Museum by…..\njoining Abenaki Elder Francine Jones* for the second year in a row! A gifted storyteller and musician\, Francine will be sharing with everyone traditional teaching stories and music that promises to be a treat for all ages. \nFor example\, did you know there’s a song to ward off mosquitoes? Get a chance to learn it and sing along! \nDid you ever wonder why dogs are so loyal and called “Man’s best friend” ? Hear the exciting story for yourself! \nChildren attending will get to participate in a Feather Dance! \nFrancine will also have a table of traditional items with adults to do a Q&A and children to explore. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Frisco Native American Museum by…..\ncoming to celebrate Founder’s Day with us! Our founder\, Carl Bornfriend\, worked tirelessly to build the museum we all know and love. Even though he’s not physically greeting our visitors\, he’s with us in every exhibit and step of further growth. As an open show of our continued gratitude and appreciation\, this day is dedicated to celebrating all his accomplishments. \nOne way we will do this is give everyone the opportunity to visit the Frisco Native American Museum & Natural History Center with only a small donation of a non-perishable food item – NO admission fee.  Join us with a day dedicated to the celebration of exploration and learning. Arrangements for free admission are easy.  Attendees simply need to bring at least one can of food per person which will be donated to the Hatteras Island Food Pantry.  Of course\, other non-perishable pantry items are also welcomed. \nWe will also be giving away seeds from some of our flowers from our pollinator garden! Carl was a horticulturist that loved yellow so we will be including lanceleaf coreopsis and black eyed susans for visitors to plant and share in the joy of the sunshine-yellow blossoms. Seeds will be only as supplies last as they have all been harvested from our own plants. \n\n\n\n\n\nVisitors will  find exhibits\, beautiful art work and displays on Native American culture from tribes across the United States as well as a gallery on the original inhabitants of Hatteras Island.  The Hatteras Island gallery provides an opportunity to “experience” the forest\, sit in a longhouse\, and hear a Native American tale. The gift shop offers a wide array of beautiful items as well as a bookstore. Visitors may also enjoy  the nature trail which includes winding paths and examples of village life prior to European contact with a longhouse\, fishing weir\, ceremonial poles\, and a dugout canoe.  The trail even offers a “story walk” with displays that slowly unfold a suspense-filled Native American legend. Late October and early November is the time of year when we’ve got a chill in the air and the ocean can get an ever so slightly menacing feeling as the waves turn choppy…..the perfect time of year for listening to some spooky stories! \nAn eerie ghost story from the Hitchiti people in Western Georgia. Tales of a giant from the Seneca people in New York. Even an Abenaki legend of a water monster! Don’t worry…we’ll leave the lights on for you. \nIf you’ve attended any of our past Powwow’s you may have had the pleasure of interacting with Crowfeather before. Dynamic and engaging\, she’s been a treat for visitors of all ages every event. Free with museum admission\, the storytelling will be taking place Saturday October the 31st and Sunday November 1st.
