SUMMARY:Story Telling & Music with Aio Blue Heron Sifu
DESCRIPTION:Indigenous tribes are a diverse group of people with many languages and varied traditions. Historically\, most of the stories about us have been told by those outside our communities. The importance of storytelling and art in Native American communities cannot be overstated. For our people it is a method of community care and healing. It is also a powerful way to reclaim our voices\, histories and empower our communities. \nMuscogee Storyteller and Musician Aio Blue Heron Sifu will be sharing her original music and stories\, both old and new. Her works speak of the power of connecting to the natural world and honoring our histories. The relationships Native Americans have with animals\, plants\, and the world. Native storytelling has always sought to teach and entertain and she carries on this tradition with grace. \nWe encourage the use of storytelling in our museum through invited presenters\, videos of Native stories from the community itself\, or through books by Native authors. \nWe will be featuring this event for two days at both 11AM and 2PM so please double check your date before RSVP-ing! \nThis event is created in part with help from the Dare Arts Council \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n More\n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n Like this:Like Loading...

SUMMARY:June 18 Voices of the Past: Weaponry & Tools of the Eastern Woodlands
DESCRIPTION:While we’re often taught about the primitive weaponry of indigenous people\, how did they actually make it and how effective were they? Were they accurate or did they struggle to hunt? Did they have protection like shields as well as weapons? Did they have specific tools for making jewelry? \nJoin Shane as he answers all these questions and more about the Eastern Woodland people. From archery to the lesser known atlatls\, and from knives to spears\, get to see how they were made as well as explanations of their use and what kind of animals would be hunted. Shane will also be going over trapping and hunting techniques that were taught. \nShane is also a silversmith and will be presenting incredible jewelry he has made and explaining how they were made before the modern tools we all know. \nSo many exciting topics\, it promises to be a fantastic time! There will be two opportunities to participate\, at 11AM and again at 2PM. \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n More\n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n Like this:Like Loading...
