16 September 2019; Dorian Volunteers

When Hurricane Matthew came in 2016, we had an amazing team of volunteers that came through and helped us clean up the museum and surrounding property.

This year, we are blown away by the volunteer help that came through. They came in like a force of nature and helped do a huge amount of work.

If it wasn’t for these volunteers, there’s no way that we could have been able to open only one week after getting major flooding! ONE WEEK!!! From helping to clean to helping put it back together, we have certainly been blessed because if anyone remembers, Hurricane Matthew shut us down for six months to do repairs.

It is also worth mentioning, that due to the hard work and effort of our team in 2016, much of the traumatic damage that caused us to be closed for those six months was rebuilt in such a way that it helped make it easier for our current crew to get straight to the heavy lifting and deep cleaning.

We will be making some changes, and we ask for your patience as we start getting back to normal. There’s still a lot of work to do on the trail before it can be open to the public. But we will be open and hope you’re able to come see us soon!
