28 June 2021; Don’t Forget Our Friday Programs

Every Friday, June 18-September 3, 2021

Meet the Artist

Lean a new craft, discover your own talents or just take advantage of the opportunity to meet and interact with a working artist.   Each Friday, the Frisco Native American Museum will “showcase” an artist at work.   Visitors will have an opportunity throughout the day to ask questions and interact with an artist and to make their own special item during a hands-on activity/program at 2:00 PM.

We’ve only had two classes so far but we’ve already had a lot of fun! Make sure to set time aside on your Fridays to participate!

Make plans to meet:

Amber Roth

Many of our returning visitors will recognize one of our “Meet the Artist” members as the lady who is often at the front counter. But did you know that Amber makes a number of our crafts? The craft she will present will depend on weather, but could vary from pendants carved from local shells to painted feathers to beadwork! Sign up in advance for the official demonstration hour for the chance to learn how to polish your own pendant, paint a feather, or start your very own beadwork bracelet!

Note: participants for the carved shell activity will be required to wear a mask due to the shell dust.

Barbara Miller

Native American Pottery

Our Director of Education & Public Relations, Barbara Miller, will be working on traditional pottery.  Trained at the Institute of American Indian Arts, Barbara will be showing pinch pot techniques. Her special presentation will be about different pottery styles, clays, and firing methods.

Want to give it a try?  Prepare to make a pinch pot or decorate a clay tile using methods the Outer Banks tribes would have used. Expect to get your hands dirty and take home your creation.

Details will be posted on the website for each available session as well as in the museum the day of the event.  Meet the Artist sessions are included in museum admission; however, there will be a modest charge for supplies if individuals want to make their own craft.
