Hurricane Matthew Recovery Update #16

We’re Celebrating!

As you probably know, we are creating an outdoor exhibit to replicate a Croatoan/Hatterask village typical of those seen when Europeans first arrived on Hatteras Island. Additionally we’ve been planning an annual Ancestral Village Days Celebration where, for that weekend, the village will become an interactive “living history” exhibit.

We would like to thank the Dare County Arts Council for the grant to purchase the leather needed to fabricate the period clothing for our volunteers to help provide our visitors with an authentic and meaningful experience that brings our past to life. Visitors to our Annual event will “step back in time” to learn about this facet of rich island history.

Our first annual Ancestral Village Days Celebration will take place on April 2018 with more than 40 educational activities on ancient village sites.
