14 May 2018; We’ve Got Corn Sprouts!

It may not look like much of a garden from far away

At this time, it may still look like just a bunch of soil mounds in the entrance to the Nature Trail. However, look closer and you can see that each of those little mounds is showing the beginning growth of several little corn plants!

With special thanks to Fix Cain and Beth Roach

For all their traditional gardening expertise. Fix brought a collection of seeds that would have been planted here by Algonquin tribes before contact with the Europeans to share with us.

But without the hard work of many of our volunteers to remove the yucca, pampas grass, trumpet creeper, and other unwanted vegetation that was previously growing there, we would not have been able to achieve this garden during our Discovery Days!.

We’re crossing our fingers that we can look forward to a harvest that will produce seeds so we can continue this garden for years to come.
