30 May 2016; Journey Home 2016 – Clay

We are so happy to announce that we had new volunteers this year!

One of those volunteers was Elonda Byers from Knox, Pennsylvania, to help teach the rest of our group about pottery and primitive firing. Using a clay that is used specifically for fires only reaching low temperatures, she helped the group create small pots and tons of beads.

We added a bit of a modern touch to our firing to allow some of the pieces to be fired within a short time. A traditional pit fire requires the clay to dry for about a week before submitting it to the fires.
