National Public Gardens Week

It’s National Public Gardens Week and we’re all about growing native species!

You may recall that last year, we partnered with Backyard Butterflies and Wooden Sea Tree Care to put in a pollinator garden. Backyard Butterflies donated 150 native plants and Wooden Sea Tree Care donated mulch.

We put in so much work between staff and volunteers to make the space ready and then putting in the plants. It took a lot of watering and monitoring during the hottest months of last year to keep our effort going!

This year, we’re seeing the fruits of our labor show up! Plants started coming back as early as March and continue to grow all around the border of the museum and the welcome sign.

This garden is for everyone to enjoy and we encourage you to explore our plants, ask questions, and look for the native pollinators that we are happy to be attracting.

Support Our Efforts by Donating!

Over the past couple of years, we’ve been working hard to plant native plants and encourage our native pollinators to visit. In partnership with Backyard Butterflies, we’ve held our first annual Moth Night and have already scheduled our 2nd in June!

But we’ve got some big ideas that need your support! We’d love to provide some educational signage about our garden and how it changes through the seasons. We’d also love to eventually purchase our own LepiLed light in order to host other bug nights for everyone to enjoy.

Please consider donating to our GoFundMe campaign to help us achieve these goals towards education and supporting our beautiful island!
